Environmental monitoring at the IIPSI building – phase one

Environmental monitoring at the IIPSI building

This is a flagship install to promote the Internet of Things (IoT) and provide both Caption Data and Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) with live data online in real time about the environmental conditions within the building.

The first stage of the process was to install the RDL//1000 base station on the ground floor of the International Institute for Product and Service Innovation (IIPSI) building, this provides an automatic, GSM to cloud link as soon as it is powered up. The second stage was to install the battery powered, long range temperature and humidity sensors.

The RDL//1000 for Environmental monitoring

The RDL//1000 system has been developed over 5 years and a key part of the system is the ease of use.  When you are in a location where you want to install the sensor, you simply switch the sensor on and press the force report button. An indicator will then flash green once a successful connection to the base station has been made.

The system is now logging data to the cloud and any timing adjustments to the logging frequencies can be made via the CDLSmartHub.

Data trend for Environmental monitoring at the IIPSI building

In the first phase logins have been given to key members of the WMG team and the University of Warwick’s facilities management team.  As the data builds up and we complete Phase II (installation of Co2 sensors) we will release a ‘publicly’ viewable site combining all measurements.

The International Institute for Product and Service Innovation (IIPSI) is a dedicated facility to support West Midlands SME’s access world-leading technology to develop leading, innovative products and services. It is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the University of Warwick.
