We are delighted to welcome Paul Norman to the team at CDL. Paul joins us from a long career at Enviro Technology, where he was Customer Support Manager. So he is very familiar with our remote monitoring, M2M and IoT technologies.
Putting Paul on the spot so we can all get to know him a little better, we asked him a few questions!
- What was your earliest ambition?
That’s a tricky one, it was a long time ago !!… But I was heavily into the Mod scene back in my early teens, and belonged to the Cheltenham Blue Diamonds Scooter club, But without a scooter!! So all I wanted was to get a good job after leaving school and earn a wage, buy a scooter and travel the country with great friends… I achieved it, and many years of fun. From there it was, Achieve Job Satisfaction & security , Climb the career ladder , Do well at College , and Purchase a property of my own…. It took time, but I got there!!
- Where was school, did you enjoy? University or straight to work? Qualifications?
I went to Cheltenham Bournside School, and left and soon as I could (16), as a keen sportsman (Represented the School and County / Cheltenham at Rugby and Athletics, I was not that interested in the academic side… So I started work in an Engineering company after leaving School, but only stayed there for less than a year as I soon realized I needed to do something with my life. So I managed to get a job with a large company called Spirax Sarco, and from the there go to college on day release and night sessions.
- Ambition or talent: which matters most to succeed?
I think you need a bit of both, as ambition will not always get you all the way, but I believe a hearty dose of ambition is a must, together with passion about what you are doing !!
- How physically fit are you? Sport? Diet?
I was always a keen sportsman, but age tends to slow you down a little…
I don’t play sport anymore, but like to walk when I can, and have started to live a little healthier ( 5:2 diet ) to go with my new job…
- In what places are you happiest?
I like to always do some different, Holidays in different countries, sporting or Live concerts / Events .. or doing something random / spontaneous. I have always enjoyed my work, and the opportunities it gave me… I never just work for the sake of it, I take pride in my work, together with loyalty..
- Last holiday?
Long Weekend in Budapest (enjoy city breaks), but prior to that a week in the wonderful Greek Island of Santorini (Greece)
- Partners kids and or pets?
I now live with my partner Sue, who is my
childhood Sweetheart of some 32 years ago. I have two wonderful children, William Aged 20 (Studying Music at Cardiff Uni), and Hannah aged 18 who will complete her 6 form studies this summer.
We have an elderly cat called Henry, who I’m sure really thinks he’s human !! He’s adored, by Sue & I
